Showcasing the talent and dedication of Filipinos, Pinoy athletes soared high during the recently concluded international sports games as they secured tickets for the upcoming summer Olympics.

This year has been tough for Filipino athletes as they showed hard work and compassion in excelling in their sports. In line with this, few athletes shined in sustaining their skills after qualifying for the Paris Olympics next year.

Last July, Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena was declared the first Pinoy athlete to qualify for the Paris Olympics after successfully setting a record on the entry standard of 5.82 meters during the Diamond League competition in Sweden.

Following this qualification, this will be the second time that the Pinoy athlete will be included in the Olympics, as he also got a spot during the Tokyo Summer Games during the pandemic.

Besides Obiena, another athlete who gained a spot for the upcoming Paris Olympics is Carlos Yulo.

Even though the athlete fell short of getting a medal during his participation at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Belgium, the athlete and its organizers were still positive about his performance after hitting one of his goals of taking a spot in the Olympics.

As far as his recent performance is concerned, Yulo’s handlers confirmed that the athlete will still be in the right condition to participate in the Paris Olympics despite his mistakes during the gymnastics championships.

Securing a spot in the boxing field, Filipino athlete Eumir Marcial will also be going to the Paris Olympics next year after clinching the silver medal during the 19th Asian Games.

Getting a ticket for Eumir to qualify for the Paris Olympics was remarkable for the Filipino boxer, as this was also his first silver medal in the Asian Games and his second time participating in the Olympics after winning a bronze medal during the 2020 Tokyo Games.

“Thank you for continuously believing in me, and I hope you can keep the support coming as we rally towards the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics,” Marcial said.

Last but certainly not least is Aleah Finnegan, who set a new record for the Philippines by becoming the first female Filipino athlete to participate in the Olympics for more than 50 years.

Finnegan gained a spot for the said competition next year after being the fifth athlete to have the highest score among the eligible athletes for the Paris Olympics during the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Belgium.

The Filipina gymnast was first known for her participation at the Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam, where she won gold medals in team and individual categories.

The 2024 Summer Olympic Games will be conducted in Paris, where over 35 venues will be opened for athletes worldwide. The competition will run from July 26 to August 2024 and will cater to more than 300 events in compliance with the 32 sports that will be included in the Summer Olympic Games.
