Highlighting the strength of local cultural heritage, faith, and community solidarity, Leyte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez joined fellow Taclobanons for the annual Sangyaw Fiesta activities. The lawmaker’s presence served to support traditional milestones while honoring the city’s current period of solemn community reflection.

The focal point of the quiet commemoration took place this morning, June 30, 2026, during the Fiesta Pontifical Mass at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Sto. Niño Parish in Tacloban City. Rep. Martin Romualdez was joined at the holy sacrifice of the mass by Tingog Party List Representative Jude Acidre, Tingog Party List Representative Andrew Romualdez, and Tacloban City Councilor Marty Romualdez. The eucharistic celebration, led by main celebrant Palo Archbishop John F. Du, provided a critical moment of prayer, healing, and shared spiritual strength for the community.

Returning home for the traditional rites, Romualdez was received politely and warmly by constituents. The interactions between the representatives and residents focused heavily on shared values and quiet resilience during the low-key public assemblies and traditional socio-cultural showcases, such as the Parade of Lights on the eve of the fiesta.

Constituents noted the lawmakers’ presence on various social media platforms, sharing factual updates, photographs, and personal accounts of the gatherings. These digital posts reflected a mutual appreciation for a hands-on leadership team choosing to stand closely with the grassroots community.

“Our traditions, especially the Sangyaw, remind us of our deep history and the collective strength that defines Taclobanons,” Rep. Martin Romualdez noted during the gathering. “While we observe our cultural milestones, we do so with a shared commitment to look out for one another, offer prayers for those in grief, and find strength in our unity.”

The annual commemoration concluded with an emphasis on local continuity, faith, and quiet community solidarity across both physical venues and online spaces.
